This is the Thorney Lakes Members' Section website.

The purpose of the site is to improve communication and hopefully you will find all the information you are looking for about the Members section of the Golf Club  to include:

News, Forthcoming competitions and matches, Minutes of Committee Meetings, Rules and Regulations, Matches, Medals and results - be sure to check the NEWS part of the site for the latest up to date details.

Captain's Note 2024

 

For those who don’t know me, I am Danny, and I am honoured to be your club captain for 2024. I have been a member here for about 15 years and you will normally find me on the golf course on a Friday afternoon in the 12.30 roll-up, a Saturday or Sunday in Malc Wiles 11 o’clock roll-up and during the summer months on a Wednesday evening playing in the mid-week comp.  I have recently just turned 50 and I am married to Emma, we have two sons Matthew who is 19 and Ben who is 15. I am a Mechanical Fitter by trade building steam turbines.  In previous lives I have been a match fisherman, fishing for Peterborough for over 10 years, I then became a season ticket holder at West Ham for 5 years, which I then gave up as my boys were young and I began to play more and more golf. Also, over the past few years I was a football coach, coaching my eldest sons team.

As I have been more involved in helping to run events during 2023, it has amazed me at the generosity of our members and their guests to help Thorney Lakes raise some fantastic amounts of money for charity, and I am sure you will all continue to support the Captains this year in our efforts to raise money. 

This year I have chosen Little Miracles as my chosen charity.  Little Miracles is a local charity which is close to my family’s hearts and has an excellent facility in Woodston for Special Needs children, which my family have benefitted from with my youngest son Ben as he has autism. Emma and I revisited them a few weeks ago and met two of the ladies that work there, they are doing a fantastic job running the place, they showed us around and told us where any money we managed to raise would be used to enhance other children’s lives.

Finally, I would just like to wish you all a very happy new year and look forward to a fantastic year of golf, and I look forward to meeting and playing with as many of you as possible.
